Psalm 40:1-3 “I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. (vs2) He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. (vs3) And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and trust in the Lord.”
2 Corinthians 1:9-10 ( Concerning Paul’s Persecutions In Asia) “But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: (vs10) Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;”
PREMISE
From the 2200 Quotations From the writings Of Charles H. Spurgeon Concerning 1 Cor.2:10 “We shall always be in danger as long as we are here. “the Lord delivered, doth deliver, and he will deliver,” so we shall always need divine deliverance while we are in this world. We must not expect “here” to be ever out of the gunshot of the enemy”
Our Great Deliverance Comes From The Lord Our God Who Is Our Deliverer
Deliverance means “the act or state of being set free, rescued , saved from evil or trouble or being released.”
EXPOSITION
A. Three Great Tenses Of Deliverance of 2 Cor. 1:10:
1. Past Tense---“who delivered us” Psalm 116:8 “For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.
2. Present Tense--- “and doth deliver” 2 Timothy 4:18 “And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen’.”
3. Future Tense--- “will yet deliver us” 1 Corinthians 10:13 “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
B. Our Great Deliverance Comes From The Lord Our God Who Is Our Deliverer:
Psalm 18:2 “The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.”
Psalm 34:3-7 “O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together. (vs4) I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. (vs5) They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. (vs6) This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. (vs7) The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.”
Psalm 86:12-13 “I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore. (vs13) For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.”
C. Our Deliverance Is Great Because We Now Have Deliverance From:
1. The Fact That The Law Was Powerless to Save--- Romans 8:1-4 “ There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. (vs2) For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. (vs3) For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: (vs4) That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
2. The Evil That Is In The World--- Galatians 1:3-5 “Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, (vs4) Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: (vs5) To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen’.”
3. The Power Of Darkness---Colossians 1:12-14 “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: (vs13) Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: (vs14) In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:”
4. The Fear Of Death---Hebrews 2:14-15 “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; (vs15) And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”
5. From “Self” In The Death Of Christ--- Galatians 2:20 “ I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
6. From The Ravages Of Death and The Grave--- 1 Corinthians 15:53-57 “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. (vs54) So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, (Isa.25:8) Death is swallowed up in victory.(vs55) O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? (vs56) The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. (vs57) But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
7. From The Weariness Of This Life--- St. Matthew 11:28-30 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (vs29) Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. (vs30) For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
