Subtopic: " My Desired Result"

Text: St. Matt. 7:24-27: "Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:(vs25) And the rain descended and the floods came,  and the winds blew: and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.(vs26) and everyone that heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand.(vs27)And the rain decended, and the floods came and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it".

PREMISE

The Pulpit Commentary,Vol.15 ,Pages 297-298, a Homily Comment on St. Matthew 7:24-27. "LIVING IS BUILDING-- Every man is building himself a house, for all life-work is putting together of a habitation in which the worker will have to dwell. Some build feebly and set up but slight structures, mere huts and shanties. Others work with more ambitious designs,  and will make themselves spacious mansions, gorgeous palaces, or massive castles. Whatever a man builds, in that he must dwell. We cannot get away from the results of our own life-work. These will either become a shelter to protect us or a ruin to fall about our heads.

Subtopic:" The Lord Is On My Side"

Text: 2 Peter 1:3-8 "According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:(vs4) Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.(vs5) And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; (vs6) And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; (vs7) And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. (vs8) For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."

PREMISE

The Pulpit Commentary Vol. 22, Page 20; a homily comment on 2 Peter 1:3-4. "There are two parties to every gift, and in order to appreciate it, it is necessary to look at the gift in relation to him who gives and to those who receive. Looked at on their Divine side, these gifts are the fulfillment of "promises precious and exceedingly great". It would be absurd and sinful to suppose that what God bestows upon his creatures is flung to them in a momentary and capricious fit of liberality. These promises might not always be fully understood, clear as they are to us when we read them in the light of their fulfillment. But they were glorious with a glory exceeding any human assurances of help and blessing. And the purport of them all was to reveal a Divine intention to provide spiritual blessings--- knowledge, deliverance, and life--- for a needy and sinful race. Great as were the promises, the fulfillment was greater still."

If God Be For Us Who Can Be Against Us

Text: Romans 8:28-31 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.(vs29) For whom he did know, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. (vs30)Moreover whom he did predestinate ,them he also called : and whom he called, them he also justified: and who he justified, them he also glorified. (vs31) What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

PREMISE

The Pulpit Commentary, Vol.18, Page 226, a comment on Romans 8:28 "The Christian may learn to avoid murmuring, when he remembers that even untoward circumstances are intended to work out his highest good. Such a conviction casts a new light upon daily experiences; and what otherwise might be regarded as annoyances, calling forth resentment, are now looked upon as ministrations of Divine love and mercy. The Christian may seek to profit by all God's providential dealings. It is the spirit in which these are received which determines whether or not they shall be means of blessing; and the proper spirit is one of submission and teachableness. The Christian will cherish the expectation that the day will come when, looking back upon the path by which he had been led, and the discipline through which he has passed, he shall be able gratefully to acknowledge that God "hath done all things well."

Subtopic: Are You Committed?

Text: St. Matthew 7:13-14 "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (vs14) Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."

DEFINITIONS

To Commit means to handover for safekeeping or to deliver to. Entrust means to commit with trust and confidence.

PREMISE

"The More Committed We Are The More Committed We Become" Pastor A.H. Coleman Sr.

The Pulpit Commentary, Vol.15, Pages 296-297, a comment on St. Matt.7:13-14. 1. "THE STRAIGHTNESS OF THE FIRST GATE. No one can become a Christian without an effort. We do not drift into the kingdom, nor do we grow up in it unconsciously. Even the children of Christian homes need to come to decision and make a deliberate choice. Moreover, there are sins to be repented of, evil habits to be renounced; pride must be humbled, and the simple trust of a little child attained. We become Christians by complete surrender to Christ. 2. THE WIDTH OF THE SECOND GATE. We do not need to make any choice of evil. Evil is all around us. We have but to let ourselves go, and we shall be swept through the wide gate. This is so very wide that we cannot miss it if we merely permit ourselves to go with the crowd.
